Avoid Scams Related to the Coronavirus

Unfortunately, scammers prey on potential victims in times of uncertainty. Please be on the lookout for websites, emails, or social media posts that sell bogus products, are a ruse to take your personal information or get online payments from you. Keep this information in mind to keep scammers at bay:

  1. Don't click on links from sources you don't know
  2. Check senders' email addresses to ensure they're coming from a legitimate source
  3. Make sure your computer's anti-malware and anti-virus software are up-to-date
  4. Watch out for emails claiming to be from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) or experts saying they have information about the virus. For the most up-to-date information about the coronavirus visit the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the World Health Organization
  5. Ignore online offers for vaccinations
  6. Do additional research before making donations through charities or crowdfunding sites. If someone wants donations in cash, by gift card, or by wiring money, don't do it
  7. Be alert about any "investment opportunities". The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) is warning people about online promotions, including on social media, claiming that the products or services of some companies can prevent, detect, or cure the coronavirus
